Record my experience of still using iPhone 6 Plus

What time is it now? Oh~ It's 2023! I'm still using the iPhone 6 Plus as my main device. Back in the day, the iPhone 6 Plus was one of the best-selling phones in Apple's history. What kind of experience can this phone still provide in 2023? (I believe you already have the answer in your mind hehe)

Let's start with a brief review#

The iPhone 6 Plus is a smartphone released by Apple on September 9, 2014. It is a larger screen version of the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 Plus features a 5.5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920x1080. It is equipped with an A8 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB, 64GB, or 128GB of storage space. The iPhone 6 Plus has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel front camera. It supports LTE networks and runs on the iOS 8 operating system out of the box.

My current configuration#

My dad doesn't remember how long ago he bought this iPhone 6 Plus, but I found the production date using i4.cn, which was April 10, 2016 (week 15). So it should be the year he bought it, hahaha. Later, when my dad got a new phone, he gave me this one. Now I feel a little nostalgic 🙃

This iPhone 6 Plus has a capacity of 128GB and is running on iOS 12. The color of the casing is Space Gray, and it looks pretty good, although it has some minor wear and tear. Overall, it looks great.

Daily use#

Mainstream apps#

Mainstream apps like WeChat, QQ, Alipay, Weibo, and Xiaohongshu, etc.

WeChat#

  • It takes a long time to open WeChat, and occasionally it crashes before entering the main interface. If the phone gets too hot, it will crash frequently.
  • Using the latest version of WeChat on iOS 12, scanning QR codes takes a long time, and there is a high chance of crashing. If the phone gets too hot, it will crash frequently. Based on this alone, it's not very user-friendly.
  • Watching videos on WeChat is relatively smooth, with occasional slight lag.
  • Sending text, voice messages, and using emojis in daily conversations is still very smooth, so I'm not too worried.
  • If your WeChat version is 7 or above, never use the built-in camera function to take photos, because it will definitely crash!!

So, to sum it up, WeChat optimization is a pile of shit. If you want a smooth experience without crashes, it is recommended to use WeChat versions below 7 (although many mini-programs may not work); if you want a fully functional WeChat, it is recommended to use version 8.0.26.

QQ#

Sigh, even QQ has abandoned iOS 12 😭

  • I have one suggestion: the latest version of QQ is relatively friendly to the iPhone 6 Plus. For my daily use, it is smooth enough to send messages, view QQ channels, and browse updates. It's not too laggy, but not very smooth either.
  • The loading time for the splash screen is slow, maybe even slower than WeChat's?

Alipay#

Although I don't have any money in Alipay, I still downloaded it, hahaha.
Here, I have to praise the Alipay team. Yes, among these five apps, Alipay has the best optimization and provides a very strong user experience👍
In the default "Fast Mode":

  • The splash screen loads quickly.
  • Scanning QR codes, wow, it's much faster than WeChat and QQ.
  • The interactive speed is also fast.

Weibo#

Since I don't use Weibo frequently, I may not have the best experience.

  • It's relatively smooth when browsing Weibo, but occasionally it crashes.
    I haven't used other features much 😭

Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book)#

Browsing updates on Xiaohongshu is still smooth.
(I know this is a bit perfunctory, but it's true hahaha)

Gaming#

Here, I have to cry a bit, sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob sob
